Market Surgery Statement Regarding Weight Loss Injections

You may have seen in the media that weight loss injections such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy are now going to be available on the NHS and obtainable from your GP.

Unfortunately, in Norfolk, the resources needed to support this, including long-term support with exercise, diet and weight, have not been set up. The Market Surgery is therefore unable to offer these injections currently.

We have been advised that Mounjaro will be available from a community service and not directly from GPs.

Once a service is in place, NHS England/NICE have instructed Primary Care (GPs) only to prescribe these medications to patients who meet the criteria below.

Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 40

AND you have four or more of the conditions below OR have Type 2 Diabetes

  • Ischaemic heart disease (heart attack or angina), previous stroke or TIA, peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of the blood vessels of the legs) or heart failure
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • High cholesterol requiring medication
  • Sleep apnoea on CPAP
